I've seen a disturbing trend recently. Many conservatives actually seem to believe that "President" Bush has never lied about Iraq. Or anything apparently. I'm not kidding. Look around. It's shocking.
Ergo, a new feature. "President" Bush's Lie of the Week, wherein I will resurrect a classic lie, most about Iraq, some about other facets of life and lying as the "president". Enjoy!
We'll start with the best.
"We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories." - from a Polish TV appearance, May 29, 2003
This lie was then repeated by:
Colin Powell - "We have already discovered mobile biological factories of the kind that I described to the Security Council on the 5th of February. We have now found them."
Condoleezza Rice: "But let’s remember what we’ve already found. Secretary Powell on February 5th talked about a mobile, biological weapons capability. That has now been found and this is a weapons laboratory trailers capable of making a lot of agent that–dry agent, dry biological agent that can kill a lot of people."
Paul Wolfowitz: "We — as the whole world knows — have in fact found some significant evidence to confirm exactly what Secretary Powell said when he spoke to the United Nations about the development of mobile biological weapons production facilities."
Unfortunately, not a single word of it is true.
And I know what all you Kool-Aid drinkers will say. But Bush didn't know his information was wrong! He was misled!
In a word, no. According to this Washington Post article, Bush and the White House knew on May 27, 2003, two days before Bush's statement, that what they had found was nothing at all. Merely "sand toilets".
And that, my friends, is what they call a good old-fashioned, bald-faced lie. And there are many, many more to come.
Special thanks to The Smirking Chimp for not freaking out when they find that I jacked their picture.
